‘Tis the Season for ‘A Christmas Carol’ November 24, 2010
Carrying on a tradition initiated by CBC Radio and inspired by Charles Dickens, this year marks the second time Orchestra London will team up with the Unity Project for Relief of Homelessness in London to present a dramatic reading of ‘A Christmas Carol’, with sing-along performances of carols by Orchestra London and the Beal Secondary School Choir. Proceeds from the pay-what-you-can, general admission event at Centennial Hall will support the Unity Project, an organization dedicated to providing shelter and services to the homeless, and Orchestra London. What better way to celebrate the holiday season than going out with family and friends to enjoy a good story and uplifting music, in support of a good cause,” says Joe Swan, Executive Director at Orchestra London.
Of the reading, Ms. Langer says, “It is our big public event and as a fundraiser it is critical to our operations, providing support for core services. It is also a very important event for raising awareness about homelessness and poverty and for inspiring people to, as Dickens says, ‘keep Christmas in our hearts throughout the year.’” Boardwalk Rental Communities has the honour of presenting the event as “Rooftop Sponsor” for the second year in a row. “Boardwalk has a long standing, demonstrated commitment to supporting the community and is especially proud to participate in this initiative that helps the homeless,” says Peter Neil, Boardwalk’s Ontario Regional Director. London’s legal community has stepped up to deliver a lively dramatic reading, with legal luminaries Siskinds LLP, Harrison Pensa, Lerners, Cudmore Law Office, Cohen Highley, and Carlyle Peterson all contributing as “Star Sponsors.” CBC Radio’s Kerry McKee will lead the Star line-up of readers including James Caskey of Siskinds, Claude Pensa of Harrison Pensa, Ian Leach of Lerners, Gord Cudmore of Cudmore Law Office, and Joe Hoffer of Cohen Highley. Jeff Culbert is returning as the Readers’ dramatic coach. Ms. Langer encourages everyone to come out and enjoy, “the pleasure of hearing a good story, the joy of music and the arts, and the opportunity to relish the goodness and inspire the energy of those who wish to make their community a better place.” EVENT SUMMARY For Tickets or More Information: Notable Sponsors and Many Thanks To: About Boardwalk Rental Communities About CBC Radio’s A Christmas Carol About Orchestra London About The Unity Project For more information, please contact:
