At Boardwalk, community means everything. Through our BWell program, 2025 has already been a year filled with generosity, gratitude, and meaningful connection. From recognizing remarkable mother figures, supporting mental health, prioritizing 2SLGBTQI+ inclusion, and helping families in need, our Resident Members and Associates have come together to make a real difference. Here’s how we’ve celebrated community so far this year.
In May, we launched “Mother Like No Other,” an initiative designed to shine a spotlight on the incredible mother figures within our communities. Resident Members were invited to nominate someone they admire—a mom, grandmother, guardian, or mentor—for a chance to win a special Mother’s Day prize. The response was nothing short of extraordinary: 356 submissions from across the country, each one brimming with love and appreciation.
This campaign wasn’t just about recognition; it was about impact. For every nomination received, Boardwalk donated baby supplies to a local non-profit organization supporting mothers and families. These donations included essentials like diapers, wipes, formula, and baby clothes, items that many families rely on during challenging times. In total, over 1,000 essential items were donated, spreading support across the country.
Each nomination was shared with care and joy, fostering a sense of celebration throughout our communities.
In June, our focus turned to celebrating father figures as part of both Father’s Day and Men’s Mental Health Month. Our "Celebrating Super Dads" initiative invited Resident Members and Associates to share stories, photos, or drawings that captured why their dad, or father figure, is a hero in their life.
The campaign was open to all ages, and responses poured in from children and adults alike. Whether it was a child’s colourful drawing of their dad flipping pancakes or a heartfelt video about a grandfather who always showed up, each submission was a testament to the strength and compassion of father figures.
But this wasn’t just about celebration, it was about support. For every submission, Boardwalk pledged to donate $10 to McMan Calgary’s James House Project, which provides housing and personalized mental health support for men overcoming complex challenges. This initiative speaks to a broader issue: men’s mental health is important and projects like James House create space for healing and hope.
Throughout June, Boardwalk proudly launched the “Love Always, Pride Always” campaign to mark Pride Month with authenticity and intention. More than a celebration, this initiative aimed to create space for reflection, storytelling, and advocacy.
Resident Members and Associates were invited to share their rpide story in video or written form. Each submission was more than a message, it was a ripple of support across our communities. Thanks to video and written submissions, Boardwalk donated to Egale Canada, a national leader in 2SLGBTQI+ rights and mental health advocacy.
Participants were entered to win 1 of 10 Pride Prize Packs, each including items sourced from Canadian 2SLGBTQI+-owned businesses and a Visa gift card to support more queer-owned or allied local businesses
Mental health remains a cornerstone of our BWell strategy, and in June we partnered with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) to deliver a special two-part workshop series titled “Mental Health Moments: Creating Compassionate Cultures.”
These workshops encouraged Associates to think critically about how we treat each other, especially in times of stress. One key focus was on self-compassion, a powerful but often overlooked tool in professional and personal wellness. Participants walked away with not just awareness but actionable steps to create more supportive and emotionally intelligent environments.
These campaigns are just the beginning. Through every submission, event, and conversation, we’ve seen the power of small acts creating big waves. At Boardwalk, community isn’t just a value; it’s an action. And in 2025, we’re proud to keep showing up for the people and places that make us who we are.
