Fitness Centre Dos & Don'ts

One of the best things about living in a Boardwalk community is the modern amenities. Some of our communities offer convenient access to fitness centres boasting cardiovascular, flexibility and strength training equipment. Whether you started working out to fulfil a New Year’s resolution or you are a regular gym goer and could use a refresher in etiquette, following these tips will guarantee to keep you off your gym’s naughty list.

Wipe Down the Machines

Be sure to wipe up your sweat after using any piece of equipment. With cold and flu season upon us, the gym is full of germs, and every little bit of prevention helps. Most fitness centres have disinfectant spray or wipes available for you to use.

Avoid Dropping the Weights

Whether you are using dumbbells, barbells or weight machines, put the weights down gently. Avoid dropping them on the floor or letting them smash together at the end of a set. Dropping your dumbbells is disruptive and can cause damage to the floor and equipment.

Ditch the Cellphone

Talking on your phone can be incredibly distracting to gym goers and dampens the atmosphere. If you must take a call, step outside or move to an area with no one around.

Share the Equipment

Be mindful of those around you waiting for their turn on the equipment. When the gym is busy, it is polite to swap with others rather than occupying one machine for an extended period of time.

Personal Hygiene

Let’s be honest, the gym doesn’t smell great. This said, there are things you can do to help out with the smell, such as using deodorant to keep body odour under control. On the flip side, strong colognes and perfumes can also make your trip to the gym less enjoyable.

Proper gym etiquette simply comes down to being considerate of others. Being mindful that everyone is here for the same reasons can help make the gym a more enjoyable place to be, for every Resident.
