Coldest Night of the Year 2019

Published: March 7, 2019

On Saturday, February 23, thousands of Canadians came together to walk through the cold and dark in support of The Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY). The annual walk-a-thon raises money for local charities serving the homeless and helps draw attention to the plight of those without a home during the cold winter months. Boardwalk was proud to be a sponsor for the walk-a-thon in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon and London again this year.

Despite the extreme cold temperatures across Canada, many people still came out with high spirits and participated in the walk. Boardwalk covered the registration fees of any Associates and Residents who wanted to be a part of Team Boardwalk.

This year, London’s walk-a-thon was hosted by Mission Services of London – a non-profit, social service organization serving London, Ontario and area. They offer meals, safe shelter, counselling, and addiction treatment to men, women and families in need.

Saskatoon’s event was hosted by The Bridge on 20th Fellowship Centre which is a Christian street mission that offers about 300 meals a day in addition to showers, clothing, haircuts, life skills development, and programming for those struggling with addiction.

The Bissel Centre hosted Downtown Edmonton’s walk. The organization works tirelessly to help alleviate poverty within the community and to ensure every Edmontonian has an equal opportunity to thrive and contribute to their community.

Downtown Calgary’s walk-a-thon was hosted by two amazing organizations - Feed the Hungry and KAIROS. Feed the Hungry offers a family-style dinner for those in need each Sunday in a warm and safe atmosphere. KAIROS is a group of ten churches and religious organizations committed to assisting families at risk of experiencing homelessness.

Boardwalk would like to extend a special thank you to all our Residents and Associates who participated in this year’s event. We look forward to participating in many more walk-a-thons to come! To learn more about The Coldest Night of the Year, and how you can get involved, click here.
